Missionaries - Iza
Iza has worked in Ethiopia as a literacy specialist among the Gamo tribe, one of the ethnic groups in Ethiopia. Illiteracy is a barrier separating the people from God's Word. Teaching people to read and write in their mother tongue is a crucial step in Bible Translation.
If a language does not have a written form it is necessary to analyze first the phonology in order to created an alphabet. It is a long process in which the native speakers play a crucial role.
Amharik is the official language in Ethiopia and it uses its own, quite difficult alphabet. However, a Roman script is being used for the Gamo language.
